Everyone has days when they’re desperate for a bit of relaxation but haven’t got the time or money to treat themselves to a visit to a spa. Well, there’s a simple solution to the problem. You can make wonderful face packs, relaxation baths and health cures from an array of everyday products. We show how to create your own special day in a few simple steps.
Tea in the morning can work wonders and makes a great start to the day – and for a good cup of tea you may not need to go further than the back garden. Fresh lemon balm or peppermint leaves are ideal for a refreshing infusion. Or if you’d prefer a fruity option, you can always use a couple of slices of orange or grapefruit. Simply boil the water and pour over the fresh herbs or fruit. Leave to draw for a suitable length of time and then enjoy. If you want, you can sweeten the tea with honey.
Then it’s time for relaxation. Why not enjoy an hour of harmony with a “salt shirt”? Dissolve 50g of sea salt in 1 litre of warm water. Take a cotton shirt and soak it in the warm solution. After a short while take the shirt out again and wring it out well. Put the shirt on and wrap yourself in a large bath towel and a blanket. Lie down in your favourite place and listen to calming music. After an hour, take off the shirt and get into the shower. Notice how firm and smooth your skin feels after this “sauna”.
Slowly but surely you start to become hungry. How about a light but satisfying lunch? A tomato and avocado pâté sounds the ideal foundation. Peel and remove the stone from a ripe avocado. Mash the flesh of the avocado with a fork into small pieces. Crush a clove of garlic and add to the avocado. Cut the tomatoes into small cubes and add them too. Then add some lemon juice and salt and mix thoroughly. Voilà, the pâté is ready. Spread on toast and enjoy.
The sun is now high in the sky and the heat is increasing. It’s time for a bit of relaxation. And what could be better now than a refreshing smoothie? Peel 1 or 2 carrots and an apple and cut them into small pieces. Finely chop a small piece of ginger. Squeeze out the juice of an orange and half a lemon. Puree everything together with a blender. Pour the smoothie into a glass and leave to cool in the fridge for about 10 minutes while you enjoy the sun.
It’s now time to think about your evening meal. Take two courgettes, a sweet pepper, 150g of mushrooms and perhaps some salad onions or leeks from the fridge. Wash and chop the vegetables fairly roughly. Put some vegetable oil in the pan. Season the vegetables with salt, pepper and a pinch of nutmeg and stir fry at medium heat. There’s still something missing though. Take one or two eggs from the fridge. Put the ring briefly on the highest setting and then add the egg(s). Mix everything together well and turn down the heat to a medium setting and wait till everything is cooked through. Garnish with a few fresh herbs, e.g. parsley or basil. Bon appétit!
The sun has now set and it’s starting to cool down outside. It’s time for a bath. Heat up 2 litres of milk, dissolve 2 spoonfuls of honey in the milk and add the mixture to the bath water. Once you immerse yourself in the water, you won’t want to get out again. Take the time to reflect on your day and look forward to the next one.
